Doodling with a Three Year Old

Posted on

After all my posts on writing and morning pages last week I haven’t been up to much writing at all this week. After nights of soothing a teething toddler and a coughing child neither of us felt like getting up for our new morning routine but craved every little bit of extra time we could stay in bed.

Lenja and I spent a few afternoons doodling instead while her brother was catching up on some sleep.

We invented this game where we both have a sheet of paper in front of us drawing random things. Then we swap our drawings and extend the other one’s art with our own drawings.

Again it wasn’t so much about the product in the end but a lot more about the process. We just enjoyed our time together, talking, laughing and creating something.

Happy mid-week to everyone!

  1. That’s a lovely thing to do, I can imagine you both enjoyed doodling around!

Here’s something I wanted to show you for a long time but always forgot – thanks for the reminder with the doodles! http://www.themonsterengine.com/artwork

Thanks Eva! I love the link you sent me! Children can definitely create some mad characters – cool idea to turn them into real monsters. Must try that for our next doodling session…:)

Lustig.)

I love doing things like this with my kids. Not only is it fun for them, it reminds me how to think like a child: creatively, joyfully, and with no thought for the clock! :)

I’m glad I discovered your blog and look forward to getting to know you!

Thank you Domini! That’s exactly what I like about it too. As adults we always want to produce “beautiful” art but kids just do it because it’s fun. I love that. :) Looking forward to reading more about your own adventures too! xx
