It’s the 9th of January and I have only published one post so far. Time for a little update.
At the moment I’m sitting here with Lenja next to me. She is in her favourite spot drawing on old scrap paper while I try to concentrate on this post…
The start of the new year has been full and crazy but good. I think this was the first time in my adult life that I already slept two hours before the new year began. No interest in staying up until after midnight. There aren’t any fireworks here in Ireland anyway, and New Years or not – the kids would still be up and active at 7 am the next morning.
Two days later we treated ourselves to a relaxing family stay in a hotel in Kerry. Lenja called it our castle and it really looked and felt like living in a castle for two days. We gorged ourselves on food and went to the swimming pool every day. Martin and I gave each other moments of solitude that we could spend in the sauna or in the outside hot tub looking out on the ocean which disappeared in grey winter mist. A perfect start to the new year I think.
The transition into normality was harder than I thought though.
The night before Martin went back to work Finn got sick. He must have caught a stomach bug or something. He was throwing up all night but was fine again the next day. Yesterday Lenja started the same procedure which gave us another sleepless night.
And all the time I was looking forward to Wednesday when both children usually go to their Nana and I get time to write and do other things that I don’t have time for during the week. But this morning Lenja still seemed to be too sick and I decided to keep her here. Luckily she is much better now.
Although the start into our first week at home could have been better I try to remind myself that this is all part of life and I’m very lucky to have children who are usually healthy.
And I think I haven’t spend a whole day just with Lenja since her little brother was born. So I’ll close the laptop now and try to make this a good day for both of us.
How has your start into 2013 been so far? Happy midweek everyone!

So glad that you got the little vacation before the stomach bug hit! Our little one has been sick with the same thing this week and those sleepless nights are no fun…so hard when they are little and so miserable when they are sick. But like you, I am grateful to have a usually healthy child. Happy New Year!
Thanks for your kind words Emmie. I could do with another vacation now…(; no I’m very glad we could recharge our energies too. I hope you are all well again in your family! And happy new year to you too!
